We here at Amos Central have seen some excellent live performances of The Nutcracker ballet in our collective lifetime.
We are also, if we’re honest, partial to watching The Hard Nut (Mark Morris) and Nutcracker, The Motion Picture (1986, Pacific Northwest Ballet). But that’s video or PBS or YouTube, it’s not the same as wearing your fanciest sweatpants (with heels) and buying a ticket to sit in a crushed velvet seat in an actual theatre to watch the ballet.
Okay, so, don’t wear sweatpants. Try yoga pants with a sweater and sparkly earrings. Or something. It’s the holidays, after all. Sure, you’re busy during the holiday season and there are a million celebratory and non-celebratory things you need or want or are obligated and/or desirous of doing.
But especially if it’s been awhile since you’ve been to a live performance and if your holiday spirit maybe needs a chance to remember what it’s like to feel a sense of childlike wonder, maybe go see a performance of The Nutcracker with an orchestra and real humans performing it.
For those of you in and around Indianapolis, here are the upcoming performances of the holiday classic in central Indiana:
