Poem: The Darkening

The great gray cloak of depression flowed majestically behind me

A long dark trail of darkness in my wake, like a living shadow

I ignore it, hoping the rest of the world doesn't notice

My armor protects me, while stifling my interaction with the world

I feel nothing, which is both blessing and curse

Stride on as work calls, family calls, duty beckons

I have become a Knight of the Gray

One who has no time for feelings, nor empathy

Riding forward into a colorful world

Never to appreciate the splendor

Leaving darkness in my wake
