To Whom It May Concern, 1939

You're Cut Off

Mr. Asa Osterander, you are cut off, sir, according to the management of Sleder’s Tavern, the Chief of Police, and, most importantly, Mrs. Asa Osterander.

Sleder’s Tavern in Traverse City, Michigan, was established in 1882 and has been in operation to this day. In 1939, this letter was sent to the management and Asa’s days grew interminably longer.

And this, kids, is why good record-keeping is important. I think we can all agree that the loss of this piece of paper would have left the entire world a poorer place. I’m sure Asa wishes the paper had never existed but when one’s wife has the chief of police in her corner, what’s a guy to do?
